The Teak Price Grading System
The wood is evaluated for the following defects with a
prescribed amount of allowable defects per board. They’re then graded by
location of defects and as serious or mild, and given a rating: 1QS being the
highest and RS4 the lowest grade.
Major Defects: Bee
Holes, Green Band, Branch, Heart Hole, Doyo Hole, Pitch Pocket, Double Heart,
Wavy, Bump, Twist, Culvature Diagonal Heart.
Minor Defects: Cup
Shape, Ring Shape, Flute, In-bark, Sun Crack, Spongy, Pink-knot, Black Spot,
Elephant Skin, Triangle shape, Felling crack, Elliptical shape.
Additional Defects: In-bark
hole, Star crack, Waving ring, Ring close, Deform Gall-store, Heart crack, Side
hole, Water stain, Flute mark, Color dark, Heart spongy, Pig eye, White spot,
White band.
